Make Your Garden A Healthy Outlet For Stress

Organic gardening will require some extra research and active avoidance of chemicals. This is due to the different factors when going all natural.  Things like pH balance, proper compost, and sunlight all take on more importance due to the lack of chemical enhancers.  If you are a beginner, take things slowly.

Take some time to learn about plant varieties so you can choose the ones with the best yields.  More often than not, a hybrid that will tolerate cold weather or disease will give you a higher output than heirlooms.

A handy trick is to turn the handle on a tool that you use often into a makeshift ruler.  Large handled tools like rakes, hoes or shovels may be used like measuring sticks.  On the floor, simply lay out the handles, then take a tape measure and run it next to them.  Label the distances on the handle with a marker pen that will not smear or fade away.  Now you have easy access to a long ruler whenever you are gardening.

Healthy soil will assist in your battle against pests and yield the best plants.  Healthier plants are stronger, which in turn can help the plants you grow become more resistant to disease and bugs that may harm them.

You may be able to re-pot some plants to bring indoors for the winter.  Your best bet would be try to save the best or most hearty plants.  Carefully loosen the dirt around the roots, then transfer the plant into a pot filled with the same soil.

These few tips will not change you into an instant gardener, however they offer a great starting point if you do plan to grow organically.  As you implement these tips and hone your skills, you'll be a green-thumb-holder in no time.
