Garden Doldrums? This Advice Will Perk It Right Up!

Starting right now, you can get going with your own garden. You may have tons of questions about how you should get started and what should be done first, but don't worry, the tips here can help. The ideas and tips below will get you started and on your way to a successful garden.

Clay soil is hard and will also stick to a shovel, making it difficult to work with. Take the hard work out of using a shovel in clay soil by rubbing a light coat of car or floor wax over the surface with a clean cloth and buff the surface. This will make your task easier because the clay won't stick to the shovel. It will also keep your garden tool from rusting.

If you start to notice some powdery mildew growing on your plants, there is no need to waste money on expensive chemicals. Instead, combine baking soda with water and liquid soap. Spray this mixture on your plants weekly until the mildew is gone. Baking soda is safe for use on your plants and is a gentle, but effective way to care for your plants.

Always take the time to get the weeds out of your garden. Weeds steal nutrients from plants, robbing a garden of its potential harvest. White vinegar can be used as a natural herbicide. Yes, white vinegar actually kills weeds! Spray white vinegar onto those troubling weeds.

When the fall season approaches, you must prepare to plant your favorite fall veggies and other edibles. Instead of using regular clay pots this year for planting lettuce and kale, try a pumpkin container instead! Scoop the insides out of the pumpkin, and don't forget to spray the inside with Wilt-Pruf. This will prevent your pumpkin from rotting. Once you've done that, you can plant!

Now you are much more prepared when it comes to gardening. It is amazing how much you can learn, even after thinking that you were pretty knowledgeable. Hopefully, the tips that were provided gave you some pointers that will help you get started with your gardening adventures so that you can begin growing like a pro.
